mamaramatv ::: Favorites 2007-05-09 21:44:19 "Birthing in the US...we have the worst infant mortality rate of all western industrialized nations." in the world?? duh! __________________________________________________
hopeand ::: Favorites 2007-05-14 19:18:44 You said midwives attend less than 8% of all US births. Considering that percentage, I wonder how many US women living in rural areas have the option of having a midwife (and birthing center); it must be a terribly small number. __________________________________________________
vianeymartinez7 ::: Favorites 2007-05-14 19:21:52 try not to say um. its becoming redundant and makes viewers focus more on poor speaking than the focus of your video, which is great and should have all attention __________________________________________________
hopeand ::: Favorites 2007-05-14 19:24:06 Part of the film's title is "business." Having not seen the film, I'm wondering whether it went into the costs of being an obstetrician in the US, for instance, malpractice insurance. I don't know what a midwife's costs are in comparison. This subject has so many aspects. Thanks for posting!! __________________________________________________
mamaramatv ::: Favorites 2007-05-14 22:10:30 Yeah, yeah...um, you try talking unscripted for half an hour straight. har. __________________________________________________
Zwobu ::: Favorites 2007-05-23 16:08:55 it's true... i watch some of the most well versed people that wouldn't ever say "um" in a conversation, say um, um, uuummmm... through a whole show. I actually think it makes the show more authentic and organic. __________________________________________________
Zwobu ::: Favorites 2007-05-23 16:16:58 I think the comment may have been addressing the issue how expensive it is to be an obsterician, not the cost of their services? I know in the past 5 years malpractice insurance for obstetricians has gone up 400%. There are even cities in the US where you can no longer give a planned birth because doctors can no longer afford to practice. __________________________________________________
Zwobu ::: Favorites 2007-05-23 16:17:54 The cost of malpractice insurance drove Elizabeth Seton birthing center out of business. And it was due to their malpractice insurance that I was disqualified from giving birth there at 7 months pregnant, even though medical experts found noting wrong with me and ok'd a birthing center birth. Most homebirth midwives don't carry malpractice insurance because while only going up 200% for them opposed to 400% for doctors, it takes up more than thhalf of their income to pay. __________________________________________________
MamaMaria309 ::: Favorites 2007-05-31 11:55:39 Roosevelt Hospital does not have the only birthing center in NY. There is the Brooklyn Birthing Center and the Morritz Heights Birthing Center in the Bronx which are both freestanding birthing centers. Bellevue hospital also has an in hospital birthing center like Roosevelt Hospital. __________________________________________________
mamaramatv ::: Favorites 2007-05-31 12:21:53 Yes! I meant to clarify: Manhattan and that would have been correct - but it's helpful to include the boroughs as they certainly count too. I'm thinking that one of those that you mention closed recently, no? __________________________________________________
MamaMaria309 ::: Favorites 2007-05-31 12:25:47 No, I recently attended a birth there. ;) __________________________________________________
