That sword was actually pretty sharp at the time, but you can do cuts like that on milk jugs with a sword that isn't sharp at all as long as it has an edge (as opposed to rebated.) the tricky thing is just learning how to do your edge alignment and follow-through correctly. it's a good thing to practice it will help your form if you do HEMA or other type of martial arts

How sharp was the edge on that sword? I'm yet to try this myself, but I hear it doesn't take much of an edge to make clean cuts like you were..

It seems to be almost immaculate, a few surface scratches. No nicks or anything on the edge. We have also done some thrusting tests and the point is still needle-like. I think we have been luckyt, it seems to be holding up very well for a $800 sword, better than i thought it would. If you cut wrong though you can mess up the edges, I know people that has happened to.

Hi BigDummy. Tell us about your sword that you're using for the test cutting. Looks like a nice bit of steel.

Thats an albion constable, had it for about a year and a half now. Cuts well for what is essentially a thrusting sword. Very nimble, 2 lbs 15 oz. We have cut through pike hafts, 2 x 4 studs and whole chickens. We are going to try a turkey.

It's a little confusing to look at but that IS a false edge cut. Look closely at my stance before I cut. Note where the true edge is in my initial stance. Watch when I line it up first slowly before I actually swing, my grip changes but the (original) true edge is on the outside of the cut...

Well, there IS such a thing as a left side tail-guard... but really our form in this was frankly terrible, we were just fooling around. I'll post a better video when we do this more seriously one time.
